River fishing, fishing in high altitude lakes or fishing in the lakes of the Maurienne valley, find what suits you. There are also a number of no-kill lakes in the area to suit everyone.

High altitude lakes 

The Croix, Bacheux, Balmettes and Sambuis lakes

These four mountain lakes contain fario and rainbow trout. Great sessions ahead, in a wild and natural setting.

The Grand’Maison reservoir

The Grand’Maison reservoir straddles the Savoie/Isère border. It is home to many species of fish, which is unusual for a mountain lake. It is home to some very fine trout.

Clartan and Montartier lakes

These two mountain lakes, located near Montsapey and Argentina, will offer their salmonids to sport fishermen: you have to walk to reach them.

Open from June to October, weather permitting.

Rivers 

L’Eau d’Olle

A real picture-postcard torrent in the middle of the mountain pastures, the Eau d’Olle is teeming with fish. You’ll be just as delighted by its typical setting as by its many trout.

The Glandon and its tributaries

The Glandon is a mountain torrent, and the upstream section and left-bank tributaries should be favoured as they are teeming with trout.

The Arc downstream

In its downstream section, the Arc is a wide river, best fished at the start of the season before the melt-up clouds the water. Sometimes, at the end of the season, some nice sessions are also to be expected.

Bodies of water 

The Oudins lake

This 2.21 hectare lake is classed as a 1st category fish lake. Baiting, fishing with maggots, rapala or artificial fish, spoons and other lures is prohibited.

The Blue and Green lakes

The Blue and Green lakes are two second category lakes where fishing is very easy.

Open all year round, weather permitting.

The Iles lake

The Iles lake is a lowland lake in the 2nd category, ideal for family fishing. It is home to a wide variety of species: carp, pike and even zander, but no salmon.

Open all year round, weather permitting.

The Pontamafrey ponds

Come and spend a day with the whole family on these beautiful lakes (Pontamafrey and Eau Salée). The southern lake (Lac de Pontamafrey) is reserved for No-Kill fly fishing.

The Bessée lakes

The Bessée lakes are 1st category lakes and contain salmonids, predators and white fish.

Open from March to October, weather permitting.

The Hurtières lake

In the heart of the Hurtières plain, this 30-hectare lake is a wonderful place for everyone to relax. By rehabilitating this former gravel pit, man has managed to bring together two mindsets: pleasure and nature.

The Echaillon lake

In a natural and wild setting, come and try to unravel the mysteries of this fishing lake.

Open from March to October, weather permitting. Open for walks every day, but only for fishing on Wednesdays and Saturdays 2pm-8pm and Sundays 8am-12pm and 2pm-8pm.

The Chapelle and Chavannes lakes

These 1st category lakes, in the middle of the countryside, contain salmonids as well as white fish.

Open from March to October, weather permitting.

Fishing and regulations Practical information

The Association Agréée pour la Pêche et la Protection du Milieu Aquatique de Savoie :

  • Holds and manages the fishing rights it acquires,
  • Participates in the protection of aquatic environments,
  • Carries out actions to develop the fish farming area,
  • Raises public awareness of the need to protect aquatic environments,
  • Trains anglers through its Nature Fishing Workshops (which aim to make novice anglers self-sufficient and pass on the ethics of association fishing).

    • 10 fishing reserves in the Maurienne
    • open from March to October and from June to October for lakes above 1,000 m
    • 6 fishing trails
    • several accommodations close to the fishing sites

    Augustin Feller 

    Augustin Feller, nicknamed “Tintin” by his friends and family, is a fishing guide in the Maurienne. He supervises fishing trips in complete safety and shares his passion with anglers of all abilities. He has been a keen angler for over 15 years, and is an avid practitioner of the sport. Over the years, he has travelled to many parts of France to fish and improve his skills. These experiences have enabled him to master various techniques and acquire a solid knowledge of a wide range of fish and aquatic environments.

    Gilles André is retired from the SNCF, but his main passion is angling (especially fly fishing). He guides enthusiasts and invents a whole range of equipment to delight anglers. Meet a man with a passion for fishing, somewhere between “Géo Trouvetout” and “MacGyver”. With Gilles André, one invention follows another and no two are alike. The next one will be called “the Professor”, an original way of teaching fishing to beginners, but it’s top secret for now!
