The Maurienne and its history

The Maurienne, a valley in the heart of Savoie, has been a route to Italy for centuries. As a strategic location between different mountain ranges, the valley became the cradle of the House of Savoy, and gradually developed its industry. The unique geology of the Maurienne favoured the growth of the mining industry, the development of hydroelectricity and the birth of emblematic inventions such as the Opinel knife.
