safety and prevention Climbing equipment

Climbing is a sport that requires a high level of vigilance when it comes to safety.

Helmets, footwear, harnesses, quickdraws and ropes are all compulsory equipment when climbing on the cliffs of the Maurienne. As the climbing sites are freely accessible, all equipment must be brought by the climbers themselves. The cliffs are also specific environments that are subject to natural hazards. It is the responsibility of all practitioners of federal activities in natural sites, not supervised by a professional, to estimate for themselves the risks involved in embarking on a route.

The manager of a site cannot be held responsible for any tracking of quickdraws, connectors, ropes, straps and other equipment belonging to site users, not listed in the initial inventory and forgotten or abandoned on the site. It is up to the user to assess the resistance of this type of equipment and to decide whether to use it at their own risk.

“One of the main recommendations is to use equipment that meets the requirements of European standards for mountaineering and climbing equipment, which must bear the CE mark. It is up to each climber to check that his or her equipment is in good condition each time it is used.” (source: FFME climbing safety rules )
