Explore the mountains in a different way thanks to via ferrata, a unique experience combining nature, challenge and breathtaking panoramas.

The via ferrata What is it?

Want to be an adventurer for a few hours?

The via ferrata is a course built into the side of a cliff, equipped with cables, ladders and footbridges, allowing you to climb to great heights in complete safety.
Attached to a continuous lifeline using suitable equipment (helmet, harness and lanyards), you progress along the wall like an explorer of the peaks.

Accessible to beginners and experienced climbers alike, depending on the level of difficulty you choose, the via ferrata combines sport, nature and thrills.

Explore Maurienne The best via ferrata spots

In the Explore Maurienne region, each site promises its own share of thrills.

At La Tour-en-Maurienne, the “via ferrata de l’Adret” is aimed at those looking for a challenge: a demanding, technical and aerial route, ideal for adrenalin-seekers. It is the first route to be equipped in Savoie.

At Saint-Colomban-des-Villards, there’s something for everyone: the introductory “Capaillan” route is a gentle introduction to the activity, while the more challenging “La Chal” route is for those who want to push their limits. (Please note that the via ferrata is closed in winter. Contact the Mairie for details of opening conditions).

Preparing well its via ferrata outing

Via ferrata is an accessible sporting activity, but it requires specific equipment and a minimum of preparation. A helmet, harness and approved lanyards with shock absorbers are essential for safe climbing along the lifeline. Gloves are also recommended for added comfort when negotiating cables and rungs.

Choose a route suited to your level and physical condition: difficult routes require stamina, ease with heights and good effort management. It’s advisable to set off early, check the weather conditions (climbing is not recommended in thunderstorms or in the rain) and bring plenty of water as well as sports shoes or hiking boots with a good grip.
Children must be at least 1.20m tall.

If you’re just starting out, or if you’d like to progress in complete safety, you can hire a qualified professional to guide you and teach you the right techniques.
