At an altitude of 1,533 metres, the Col du Chaussy in Savoie is a sunny plateau overlooking the Maurienne valley, in the commune of Montpascal.

In summer, the pass is an ideal spot for outdoor activities. It offers numerous hiking trails accessible to all levels, as well as popular routes for cyclists, notably via the Montvernier lacets or in connection with the Col de la Madeleine.

Popular for its sunshine and open spaces, the Col du Chaussy offers beautiful panoramic views of the Belledonne and Lauzière massifs, as well as the Aiguilles d’Arves.

Getting there

An Alpine classic 

The Col du Chaussy is a must for cycling enthusiasts.
Whether you’re coming from the legendary Montvernier switchbacks or accessing it via Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne or La Chambre, each ascent offers a sporting challenge, with gradients averaging 7-10% and spectacular views.

For road cyclists, the col can also be part of longer tours, such as the Col du Chaussy and Col de la Madeleine, which offer up to 80km of mountain biking and 2,350m of climbing. At the summit, the view of the Lauzière massif, the Cheval Noir and Mont-Blanc rewards every effort. It’s the perfect place to take on one of the most iconic climbs in the Alps.

A traditional Lappish refuge The Finnish kota

Among the larches and alpine meadows, the Finnish kota offers a small wooden hut at the start of the hiking trails. Open all year round, it’s an ideal break for hikers and families who want to enjoy the mountains in summer.

Equipped with a barbecue area, the kota provides a place to rest, eat and enjoy a convivial moment in the heart of nature. From this shelter, you can admire the surrounding panoramas of the Lauzière and Belledonnemassifs .

A starting point for walks 

Starting from the col, the itineraries range from 1,700 to 1,800 metres altitudefor easy walks, to the summit of Le Grand Coin (2,729 m), one of the must-see peaks in the Maurienne.

Between larch forests, high mountain pastures and open ridges, the routes offer beautiful views. It’s a great place to hike and enjoy the mountains in complete tranquillity.
