A little hidden treasure in the Maurienne, the Col du Sapey offers a rather wild ascent through the forest, far from traffic. It links the small hamlets of Montandré and Grenis. Far from the crowds, you'll be seduced by its wild, authentic feel.
At the gateway to Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, the Col du Sapey is an ascent that has yet to be made public, ideal for cyclists in search of peace and quiet and authenticity. From the valley floor, the road rises steadily towards the village of Montdenis, before plunging into a resolutely alpine atmosphere, between forests and panoramic views over the Maurienne valley.
One of its main assets is that it is not very busy: traffic is scarce, allowing you to enjoy the climb to the full, in a peaceful, unspoilt environment. As you approach the summit, at an altitude of 1315 m, the scenery opens up and rewards the effort with a serene atmosphere, far removed from the hustle and bustle of the major Alpine passes.
An ideal itinerary for a leisurely sporting outing, perfect for discovering a more discreet but equally charming facet of the Maurienne.
